After Trump’s inauguration, ANOHNI was compelled to choose a series of books and records from her collection and emblazon them with the directive “DON’T CRY”. This consolation was issued to various subjects, depending on the nature of the media upon which it was painted.

Divine died just as he was finding mainstream acceptance in 1988. ANOHNI had hear Divine on English TV a couple of summers previously singing “You Think You’re a Man But You’re Only a Boy” to stunning effect. ANOHNI clipped her obituary and went to college, where she was exposed to Female Trouble and Pink Flamingoes, and a world opened up before her, one that offered the possibility of sly revenge and the embrace of unfathomably encoded beauty, masquerading as anarchic and hysterical self expression. ANOHNI wrote the poem that would become the lyrics to her ode to Divine while still in high school.
